Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts belongs to four generations of the Robertses who reside in the Atlanta area, starting in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. At an early age, her father was interested in theatre. He was an actor on at the Emory University campus in 1952 and also in other productions throughout Atlanta. In 1953, he was a member of the Air Force. He was stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in the production of Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and in 1956 their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter as well as his spouse left the Air Force in 1957, at which time they were enrolled Walter in Tulane University. The family relocated in 1960 in Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local children's Saturday morning television show Bum Bum and His Buddies, which they funded themselves. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou established their own organization called the Actors and Writers Workshop. The program ran for six years. They welcomed in 1965 two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
